Know the size
If you are in the market for a new kitchen faucet, it is important to take note of the kitchen faucet connector size before you make your purchase. The wrong connector can damage the kitchen faucet or plumbing system causing a costly repair or even replacement. It is also important to know the correct measurements of your current faucet so that you purchase the correct replacement part. Although most modern kitchen faucets come with the standard kitchen faucet connector size, there may be many older faucets out there that are still using the old connectors. If you are replacing an old kitchen faucet with a new one, it is important to use the correct connector size.
To find out the correct kitchen faucet connector size, turn off your water source. You can do this by unplugging the faucet from its power source and turning it off. Take a long screwdriver and gradually move it back and forth until you feel pressure coming from the sink. With the sinker fully turned off, gently grasp both ends of the new faucet. Use your fingers to gently grasp the faucet and slowly turn it around in either direction to check for leaks or gaps. Once you determine that the faucet is correctly turned, grab the opposite end and slowly turn the valve back and forth to check the position of the valve clearances.
Find a drain locate
Your next step is to locate the drain plug for the faucet. You should notice that the faucet has three separate holes that are positioned differently in relation to each other. You will need to locate the plug nearest to the drain. Simply place your hand beneath the faucet connector and slowly grasp the end of the faucet until you feel pressure on the end where the plug attaches to the drain. You will need to use two fingers to support the effort as you try to pull the faucet connector out.
Remove the faucet connector
Once you have located the faucet connector, you will need to turn the valve in either clockwise or counterclockwise directions to lock it into the correct position. After you have made sure the valve is properly in place, turn the handle in the clockwise direction to turn on the water supply to the house. If you feel any pressure around the handle, verify that the faucet is correctly aligned with the valve.
You will next want to connect the water supply line from the faucet to the faucet valve. Do not be hesitant to install a high quality connection like an NPT or Y-Brite connector. Connect the water line to the faucet valve as you did with the water supply. Turn the handle in the direction of the flowing water to complete the installation. You will need to be careful when you turn the handle, as water could be pushed back into the faucet, especially if it is installed in an older home.
Install faucet connection
Installing a kitchen faucet connector is not difficult. It does, however, require some basic understanding of plumbing. You will also need to know how to turn on the water supply and set the faucet in the correct position. Following these simple steps will help you complete the job quickly and efficiently.
