There are many ways to transfer or deliver knowledge for students; one of them is through social networking. The form of social networking is electronic communication which users create online communities to share information, ideas, personal messages, and other content as videos and images. The kinds of social networking are Facebook, Twitter, Blogger, Myspace and etc, but the most popular is facebook. Facebook was founded by Mark Zuckerberg, launch in 2004 and in 2012 facebook has more than 1000 million active users worldwide. Moreover, Wetzner & Gordon-Logan (2011) say that, ‘it has surpassed Google (www.google.com) as the most popular site in the United’. Facebook is generally considered to be the leading social networking site among college students. Mazer,Murphy and Simonds, have found that students accessing the Facebook website of a teacher with high self-disclosure reported higher levels of teacher credibility. Thus, in process of learning and teaching, facebook is   becoming useful for communication between teacher and learner.

Facebook is one of social networking that was very-very popular in the world. In America, President Obama uses a social media team to connect with Americans across the country through Facebook and Twitter (Wetzner & Gordon-Logan, 2011). In Education, facebook is building relationships in the school. Teenagers in school for example may meet in class, become Facebook friends and then share things and talk about things online to form bonds when they cannot be together. People who are shy often find socializing online is a great way to build friendships in a safe environment so they are stronger when they next meet that friend. In addition, principals are utilizing Facebook to screen potential teacher candidates (Jodi & Bledsoe). Even though Facebook has positive and negative impact, the fact remains that it continues to grow as a powerful resource for information in learning and teaching process.

Facebook is a comprehensive system containing various functions and special features which can be used in the teaching and learning like wall, group chat pages and note. Wall functions provided by Facebook is a communication tool helping to make connection with course members. Similar to other online forums, it’s actually a place allowing students to post their questions and give response to others and function by discussing their academic problems there. For one example, one of them asked about how to make a good essay.

Furthermore, Rather than organizing discussions face to face in the class periods, the group chat in Facebook provides teachers and students with another choice that is to have online discussions in any suitable time. Like the chat room in Facebook home group chat allows multi-personal real time communications, meaning that online discussion among whole class could be arranged in the ideal case. In this course, it’s has always been used between students and teachers. Through using this function to ask questions, immediate replies could be received and effective communication among whole class could thus be resulted.

Facebook also have tool name is pages. That can be useful resources for educators. (Jodi & Bledsoe) Pages may include information about the organization, current trends and issues in education, opportunities for professional development, and much more. The Page is also a place for Facebook users to collaborate with others. Educators can like Pages on Facebook and view updates and postings in their individual newsfeeds, which can lead to resources and ideas applicable to classroom instruction. Examples of professional groups using Pages include the International Reading Association (IRA), the International Dyslexia Association (IDA), Reading Rockets (RR), National Council for Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM), National Science Teachers Association (NSTA), and the National Education Association (NEA).

Another feature that could be served as important teaching tool is the Note. Note is actually a tool letting users to share their long articles within group. According to Dr. Fred (2011) Teachers used that function in two ways. One was to post the answers for students’ frequently asked questions. Such act could probably help teachers to reduce their time in answering students individually and also clarify the misunderstanding that other students may also have. Another way of using “Note” function was to post weekly recap, a reminder telling students the important parts of the knowledge learnt during the week. All these notes could be saved in Facebook Docs. From this, it can be seen that can certainly provide teachers with alternative channel in teaching students.
